The club is located across the street from the Woodbridge Community Center, yet the two sites have never competed because they have different clientele, McCormac said. "We are going to introduce comprehensive youth sports training programs and we're very likely to replace the tennis courts with an ice hockey rink," he said. The Club at Woodbridge will remain "largely the same," McCormac said. "Maybe it was time for us to back off a little and it was an opportunity for the town to acquire a great place with great people," Ray added. What they'll miss most is the people, the brothers said, adding that they have served generations of families. "I've been ready to retire long before Ray was," he said. Jeffrey said he'll be doing a little more traveling. I'm also going to volunteer with Meals on Wheels to see if I like that." The Club at Woodbridge has more than 3,000 members, not including children, Ray said.Īs far as memberships, everything will stay the same, the mayor added.Īlthough he will be retiring from his duties at The Club, Ray won't be far from the business. ![]() "The purchase will complement the recreational amenities currently provided by the Woodbridge Community Center."Ī majority of the 200 employees, many who have been there for 20-plus years, will continue to work at the facility, which will be overseen by general manager John C. "It is not being purchased with taxpayer dollars, but through the Recreation Utility which is funded from user fees and other monies secured from the township’s profitable operations, including the Community Center and recreational programs," the mayor said. That purchase price, along with anticipated expenditures needed for building upgrades, has some questioning the deal, including one township resident who has filed numerous complaints with different state agencies.īut the mayor counters that the purchase will actually not cost taxpayers money, while resulting in a much-improved community facility. ![]()
